2. Viking art... My new hyper-fixation...

It all came to me one day...

I can't even remember how I got this idea... I've been thinking about this for months and I waited for the right moment to start because I lack organisational skills when it comes to time management. I tend to start to many projects and some of them remain unfinished.

What influenced me? It was the history of Waterford? My old passion for viking movies/series? Or it was my friend's celtic themed artwork? Maybe all of them? I have no clue what has inspired me  to start working on this collection.

I remember that months ago I was planning to start painting viking symbols on small canvas panels, paintings that were to be framed with my usual handcrafted frames. Having other things on my plate at that moment, I decided to sort everything out first and after that to jump into another "challenge".

The months passed and one day I remembered about some black paper I purchased at some point, I was saving it for some interesting projects. It's the perfect surface, the paper is thick and acid free and the black background makes the subjects to stand out. The size A4 is exactly what I needed, not to big or small, a standard size that can fit any frame. I decided to sell them unframed and let the customer to choose the color.

I painted a few of them and I instantly realised that they need protection. People don't usually realise that the mounts are not just for enhancing the colors, but also for protection of the artwork. This is keeping the surface away from the glass, keeping away the moisture that can cause damage over the time. This is the only way to preserve a piece of art behind glass, otherwise it will be ruined quickly, it's just a matter of time.

All of them are now available for purchase and they are market exclusive, what does that mean? They will not be listed on my website and they will be displayed at markets. This doesn't mean they cannot be sold online! If someone will approach me and request shipping, anything can be arranged. They are signed on the front and they will come with included mounts, mountboard, with description and protected in a cellophane bag.

I have to mention that all of this time consuming process couldn't be done without my valuable studio assistant, always there and keeping an eye on everything I do. So these are tested and approved, thanks to Nina. My paintings are trusted and the dark background is a perfect match to any black cat. My new collection is a part of my display and I can be found on Saturdays at Waterford Cultural Quarter, summer market 10-16 pm May-September. See you there, Nina is counting on your presence!
